REVCOM HISTORY

history

In 1981, the licensing laws were changed regarding CB (Citizens Band) radios.

Members of the UK public could now own and operate mobile radios. The CB movement had been operating in the US for many years prior to that, and an organisation called REACT had been formed.to assist with emergencies using CB radio.

These Radio Emergency Associated Citizens Teams were successful in assisting mainly truck drivers in the event of an emergency.
After several years of operating under the control of the US as REACT teams, many people felt that we were sending lots of money to the US in return for little more than a magazine.

The membership split and around half the teams met at a lorry park near Nuneaton and REVCOM was formed.

The organisation, Radio Emergency Volunteer Communication had, initially, set it's sights on monitoring channel 9 on CB and providing a lik between CB and landline services. When Mobile phones became commonplace there was no need for this service and we changed direction and became an events based service.
